Description

A diary of my mothing activity covering highlights and photos from my moth trapping activities. Mainly Norfolk (UK), occasionally beyond. I may mention other wildlife sightings here, especially insects, but for birds see my birding diary.

Wildlife review of the year - 2019 and 2020

My last post on here, from the back end of 2019, dealt with some late records from 2018 and I started it, "As I begin to embark on a series of posts covering a summary of 2019's observations..."  Well you might have expected to see a series of posts covering 2019 fairly soon after that, but if so I'm sorry to have disappointed you!

I delved into a bit too much detail and it too me took long to prepare them.  They were nearly completed, but not quite, when the 2020 season got really busy, and at that point I had to park them.  Rather than publish them now, when some of the comments make no sense in the light of 2020's records, I've decided to update them to incude 2020 records, so a combined review of both 2019 and 2020.

It will take me some time to get through them all (I still have 2-300 specimens to examine and thousands of photos to sort out) but this time rather than wait until the whole lot are finished I shall publish them as I go along, starting with the groups that I've finished.  Doing it this way I might miss the odd record and have to go back and edit posts, but at least I'll get something out (and records submitted at the same time) before the 2021 season gets too busy.

Hope you enjoy, though to be perfectly honest I do this as much for my own benefit as for anyone else's (the blog that is - the records themselves I do think is important that are submitted and shared for everyone's benefit, even if I am behind on that too).

Oh, and one last thing.  The title of this blog links to my website gobirding.eu, but sadly that website was suspended at the beginning of this year as .eu domains must be registered in the EU.  I never imagined that this would be an issue (in fact I don't recall realising it was a requirement) when I obtained the domain name many years ago as I never dreamt we would be stupid enough to leave the EU.  Anyway, I had already been thinking about revamping the website, and the title of this blog referring to moths when it was increasingly about all kinds of wildlife was also begging for a change, so once I've finished this review I shall be re-thinking my online presence.  Not sure exactly what shape that will take yet - maybe a new website, maybe something else, but Blogger has been quite frustrating to use lately (especially with spam control) and so it probably won't be here.  Watch this space and I will let you know, eventually, probably...
